Cannabis- Induced Psychosis on the Rise- What You Need to Know

New research from McGill University shows high-THC cannabis use can alter brain chemistry in ways similar to schizophrenia (Psychiatric Times, May 2025). As legalization expands, ER visits for cannabis-induced paranoia, hallucinations, and delusions are rising—especially among teens and young adults.

5 Safety Tips:

  1. Know your strain: Avoid products with >10% THC.

  2. Don’t mix with alcohol: Raises psychosis risk.

  3. Delay use if possible: The earlier the start, the higher the risk.

  4. Know family history: Genetics affect susceptibility.

  5. Seek help early: Confusion, voices, or delusions should not be ignored.
