Recent CDC data reveals 42% of high school students report persistent feelings of sadness or hopelessness—especially girls and LGBTQ+ youth (CDC, 2023). As a PMHNP, I see many teens internalize these feelings, fearing stigma or dismissal. Social media, academic pressure, and post-pandemic adjustment continue to fuel a quiet crisis.
5 Self-Help Tips:
Create digital boundaries: Limit screen time—especially before bed.
Journal daily: Writing down thoughts lowers emotional overload.
Get moving: 30 minutes of walking daily improves mood.
Talk it out: Use therapy or support groups to build coping skills.
Track mood shifts: Simple apps can help teens link emotions to triggers.
